Maldivian vice-president Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik, who is on a three-day visit to Sri Lanka met with President Mahinda Rajapaksa on August 30 at Temple Trees. Mr. Manik told President Rajapaksa that he is visiting Sri Lanka two years after his earlier visit, and he is very impressed by the progress achieved by the country during this period. He noted that he travelled in the Colombo city, and is very pleased to see the development in the city as well as its beautiful and clean atmosphere.
He also mentioned that he appreciates the assistance the Republic of Maldives receives from Sri Lanka in different spheres, and shared ideas about further strengthening the friendship and goodwill between the two countries.
Adding his views, President Rajapaksa stressed the need for regional countries to enhance collaboration in the region.
The event was attended by High Commissioner of the Republic of Maldives to Sri Lanka Hussain Shahib.
