The State Musical Awards Ceremony was held on August 30 at Temple Trees under the auspices of President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Organized by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs in collaboration with the Department of Cultural Affairs, Sri Lanka Board of Arts, and the State Music Committee, this was the first competitive music awards ceremony to be held in Sri Lanka.
The President took part in the ceremony by giving prestigious awards to 10 artists who have rendered an extraordinary service to the field of music. The ceremony was illuminated by a variety of events performed by talented artists.
In this ceremony, Sangeethanjali, a book written by Sunil R. Gamage was presented to the President.
The event was attended by Minister of Culture and Aesthetic Affairs T.B. Ekanayake, MP Malini Fonseka, Governor of Central Province Karunarathna Divulgane, Chairman of Sri Lanka Board of Arts Carlo Fonseka, and many other distinguished people in the field of music and art.
