One third of the Provincial Roads will be carpeted this year. All the Provincial Roads throughout the country will be carpeted before the end of 2012, said Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Economic Development.
He said this addressing the meeting held to inaugurate the carpeting of Devsirigama Road in the Devinuwara electorate of Matara District.
Ministry of Economic development will provide Rs.42.6 million for the carpeting of this road. Southern Development Authority is assigned the construction work. More than 15000 people of who use this road for their day to day work will benefit from this project.
Minister further said that the government will provide rural people with all the facilities affordable in the cities. Economic Development Ministry has allocated Rs. 500 million to develop provincial roads length of 207 k.m. meters in 7 electorates of the Matara District.
Minister of Youth Affaires Dallas Alahapperuma, Provincial Road Development Minister Chandima Rasaputra, Provincial Council Member Kanchana Wijesekara and other guests were present.
