Congressman Steve Chabot calls on Minister of External Affairs

 

United States Congressman Steve Chabot called on Pro. G.L. Peiris, Minister of External Affairs, for a discussion of current developments in the country and bilateral relations with the United States.

Prof. Peiris briefed the Congressman fully, among other matters, on the extensive range of discussions which the Sri Lankan delegation, led by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, had in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.

Mr. Chabot is Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Sub Committee on the Middle East and South Asia and has served as Congressman in Ohio’s First Congressional District for 15 years. Mr. Chabot, who is one of the leading advocates in Congress for fiscal responsibility, is undertaking a visit to Sri Lanka for the first time.

Ms. Patricia A Butenis, Ambassador of the United States in Sri Lanka, and Mr. Sajin de Vaas Gunawardena, Member of Parliament, were present at the discussion.
