Postal voting for LG polls today

The postal voting for the third phase of upcoming local government election is to commence today.

The postal voting will take place at named government offices from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and the officials who fail to vote today can vote tomorrow as well.

Over 4,500 public servants are eligible to vote at the election for the 23 local government bodies. They include personnel of the three armed forces, police, education and other public sectors engaged in election duties.

The phase 3 of the local government elections is to be held on October 08. The representatives of the political parties and two election monitoring organizations are permitted to monitor the postal voting process.

Special arrangements have been made to provide security to the state institutions where postal voting is taking place.

Meanwhile, holding meetings and displaying posters and cutouts where voting is taking place are totally banned. The Police have warned to strictly enforce the election laws.
