The construction of a special housing scheme for the Adivasi community in Vakarai, Batticoloa commenced last week.

A joint venture by the Ministries of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities; and Culture and Arts, this is a response to a request made to President Mahinda Rajapaksa to solve the housing problem of the Adivasi community.

Implemented at a cost of Rs. 80m, this project will benefit around 500 Adivasi families in the district, in need of proper housing facilities.

Several more housing schemes are scheduled to be constructed in Dambana, Henanthigala, Dalukana, Rathugala, and Pollabeddha.
