More people-friendly public service to be in place
- President

Measures are underway to bring about a more people-friendly public service that addresses aspirations of the people, stated President Mahinda Rajapaksa, addressing a gathering at Siribopura, Hambantota yesterday (October 4), after declaring open the Magam Ruhunupura Administrative Complex.

Constructed at a cost of Rs 2,900 million, the Magam Ruhunupura Administrative Complex features 42 government institutions that provide all state services under one roof. Part of the Magam Ruhunupura Town Development Plan, it has been financially assisted by South Korea.

Addressing the gathering, the President noted that the Administrative Complex will play a pivotal role in public service. This will be followed by many such Complexes scheduled to be constructed in every district, he said.

The Government has been involved in massive development initiatives covering the whole country. Every person in the country is now enjoying their outcomes. The Government will uplift this nation to high position in the world with the implementation of the Mahinda Chinthana Forward Vision, empowering it with more courage, strength and confidence, he added.

He further said that the Government allocates Rs. 90 billion for infrastructure development each year. This amount will be increased to Rs. 100 billion per annum from the forthcoming budget.

He also noted that despite the massive development thrust in the country, certain factions are in an attempt to mislead the people with misinformation campaigns. While stressing that the Government treats all communities equally, he denied rumours that it is planning to extract a mosque in Hambantota for infrastructure development. Religious places will be further developed rather than removed, he reiterated.
