More projects to develop Jaffna

Several projects, carried out by Japan International Corporation Agency (JAICA) to upgrade Jaffna have been completed.

Accordingly, a new building constructed for the Nursery belonging to Achchuveli Coconut Cultivation Board was opened recently. JAICA has provided the Achchuveli Coconut Development Board with tractors, spraying machines, and irrigation facilities for the nursery. A parapet wall right round the premises has also been constructed, probably to prevent any outside interference. JAICA’S contribution towards this project is well over Rs.24 million.

Also, a Sea Cucumber Cultivation project at Navanthurai in Jaffna has been launched again as a pilot project with 24 selected families from the area.

Furthermore, Fisheries and Marine Engineering Training College at Gurunagar, constructed at a cost of Rs.82 million was opened. This institute will train students in Fisheries and Marine Engineering not only from the North but also from the country in entirely.
