Get involved more in extracurricular activities – President tells students

 

President Mahinda Rajapaksa emphasized that school students should get involved in sports and other extracurricular activities if they want to succeed in future world.

Addressing the prize giving ceremony at the Anuradhapura Central College on Saturday, the President has pointed out that the challenges before the future generation are not easy if they were to win the world of tomorrow and they should not confine their activities only to the books.

“Children should not only concentrate on academic achievements but sports, extra-curricular activities, cultural, spiritual activities etc. This would provide them with necessary impetus to thrive in this competitive society and confront future challenges successfully” he said

He encouraged the school children to develop the habit of reading and pointed out only through reading they can gain a wide knowledge on the country and the world.

The President awarded prizes and certificates to the students who received highest marks at the GCE Ordinary Level and Advance Level examinations in 2009 and 2010.

Principal of the school Menike Jayasena presented a memento to the President on behalf of the school. Secretary of Education Ministry H.M. Gunasekara, Secretary of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Gotabhaya Jayaratna, North Central Provincial Minister of Education Ananada Kularatna, Director of Education of North Central Province Mrs. Nirmala Ekanayake, officials of the Education Ministry and parents participated in the occasion.
