77 ex-LTTE cadres who have undergone the rehabilitation programme conducted by the Ministry of Prison, Reforms and Rehabilitation, are to sit the GCE O/L examination in December this year.

These youths have obtained this opportunity after following special academic courses carried out in line with the rehabilitation programme.

The Government took measures to assure ex-LTTE cadres of their right to education. They were deprived of their rights when they were in the hands of the LTTE.

 In 2010, 175 ex-LTTE cadres sat the GCE O/L Examination and 38 passed all subjects. 222 got through the A/L Examination out of the 361 who sat the exam. 30 students from the Arts and Commerce streams have entered university.
