The Congressional Caucus on Sri Lanka, along with the Embassy of Sri Lanka, will be hosting a Congressional Briefing on post-conflict Sri Lanka at the Capitol Visitor’s Center on November 2 at 3.00 pm.
The event will focus on Sri Lanka’s efforts towards post-conflict reconciliation, rehabilitation and resettlement in the 28 months since the end of the government’s conflict against the LTTE, stated the Sri Lankan Embassy in Washington.
To provide background on the conflict and its impact on present-day Sri Lanka, the briefing will begin with the screening of “Lies Agreed Upon — An Investigative Documentary into the final days of the Sri Lankan conflict,” a film which addresses the allegations made by a recent video produced Channel 4, the Sri Lankan Embassy further said.
The film presentation will also be accompanied by the release of the Sri Lankan Ministry of Defense’s publication, “Humanitarian Operation Factual Analysis: July 2006 – May 2009”. After the film, a panel of US-based experts on Sri Lanka, including Ambassador Jaliya Wickramasuriya, will discuss ongoing efforts in Sri Lanka to work through the post-conflict development phase and reconciliation, and the U.S. response to these developments. “The event is free and open to the public and we look forward to seeing you on Wednesday”, the Sri Lankan Embassy in Washington added.
