Heritage museum in Hambantota

On a proposal made by Dr. Jagath Balasuriya, Minister of National Heritage, the Cabinet decided to establish the Hambantota heritage Museum in the old Kachcheri building complex at Hambantota.

This is based on the concept of preserving and maintaining the unique cultural and historical heritage of Ruhuna.

By the proposed museum, it is envisaged to present Ruhunu cultural heritage to the local and foreign travelers visiting the south via new Hambantota port and the proposed International Airport.

The museum will also be a tourist destination while providing a highly valuable educational opportunity to the local students.
