STF rehearsing traffic control on new expressway

The Special Task Force (STF) Police are conducting a series of rehearsals on servicing the motorists on the country's first high speed expressway.

The traffic control of Colombo - Galle toll expressway is vested on the STF and the STF officers are being educated on special traffic laws applied on the expressway and trained on practical aspects regarding the control of traffic.

The elite arm of police, normally specializing in VIP security and commando operations, has not been used for traffic control before.

Police sources say that simulation operations of accident service and breakdowns etc. were held in the expressway during the past week. Hundreds of STF officials participated in the operations.

Meanwhile, the expressway named as 'Gateway to Wonder' is to be opened for public on November 27 by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
