Dayata Sevana programme launched

 

President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday launched the second stage of the Deyata Sevana national tree planting campaign a campaign to plant 1.1 million trees in the country.

The President planted a Na tree at the Botanical Garden in Battaramulla and launched the Campaign themed under "Haritha Ratak - Deyata Sethak".

Under the project a "Green Park" will be established adjacent to the Japanese Friendship Road near Diyawanna Oya in Battaramulla.

The first stage of the Deyata Sevana Tree Planting Programme commenced a year ago has planted 2.9 million trees island wide.

Minister of Environment, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, several other Cabinet Ministers, large number of school children and diplomats also attended the tree planting ceremony.
