Paranthan chemical factory to be revived

The government is taking measures to reconstruct Paranthan chemical factory which was completely destroyed by the three-decade long conflict.

The Ministry of State Resources and Enterprise Development plans to reconstruct the Paranthan Chemical Industry in a 217-acre plot of land in the Northern Province.

A Project Report has estimated that that it would require Rs.3 Billion for the re-establishment of the factory in the same location in Paranthan.

Investors from India, Ireland and Dubai have already come forward to invest in the project.

Once established, the factory expects to manufacture 25 tons each of caustic soda and chlorine per day.

According to statistics, Sri Lanka needs 2,000 metric tons of chlorine and 15,000 metric tons of caustic soda annually, and presently, imports the entire annual need of chlorine.
