China’s “win-win” philosophy benefits world- Kohona

“The Five Principle of Peaceful Co-Existence and the “win-win” philosophy which have underpinned China’s relationship with the rest of the world have resulted in tangible benefits to China and many other countries,” stated Sri Lanka's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dr. Palitha Kohona speaking at the China – US Town Hall Discussion.

China’s growing economic power and linkages with the rest of the world have provided an economic bounty, not only to China but to many developing countries, Dr. Kohona said.

“Today China is proactively encouraging the study of Confucian values that date back centuries. These values have been at the core of the Chinese world view. At a time when the international order is being buffeted by numerous challenges, these values should help to provide a different sense of clarity. The rapid emergence of China will be a challenge to many. But a prosperous China could be an unparalleled opportunity for all, “Dr. Kohona further said.

Dr. Palitha Kohona was a panelist at the annual US – China Town Hall discussion at the University of Connecticut. This discussion was electronically linked to 50 locations in the US. Dr. Zerbigniew Brezezinski former National Security Adviser to President Carter, was the key discussant and participated by video link. He fielded over 30 questions transmitted electronically from around the country. His key message was that both countries would stand to gain enormously from a non confrontational approach.

The other panelists were Ms. Janet Carmosky, CEO, China Business Network and Professor Yu Zheng, University of Connecticut.
