Over Rs.21m to provide water to Jaffna

 

The Government has allocated over Rs.21, 000 million to provide purified water to the Jaffna peninsula from the Iranamadu reservoir to benefit over 689,000 individuals.

According to the Minister of Water Supply and Drainage Dinesh Gunawardana, the Ministry has drawn up a plan to distribute purified tube water throughout the Jaffna peninsular under this initiative. Clearing the drainage water system of Jaffna also has been included in this project.


Rs.29, 000 million had been allocated for the Water Supply and Drainage Ministry from the budget of year 2011, the Minister said.

This amount has been increased to Rs.33, 000 million for 2012.The Ministry has drawn up a four year plan by allocating Rs.164 billion for this purpose
