Southern electricity systems restored

All power systems in the Southern Province which were destroyed due to the recent stormy weather have been restored by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) spending over Rs.119 million.

According to the Ministry of Power and Energy, six transformers, four high voltage electricity towers, 46 kilometers of high voltage electricity wires and 1,000 kilometers of normal electricity wires were destroyed by the heavy rains and winds.

Around 530,000 families of the 660,000 families in the Southern Province have to live without power as a result.

The CEB stated that over 1,000 officers belonging to over 150 engineering teams and civil service teams have been detailed for reconstruction activities.
