Another group of 46 ex-LTTE members rehabilitated at the Thelippalai Rehabilitation centre in Jaffna joined their families on Sunday (11).
A function to hand them over to their families was held at the Jaffna Weerasingham Hall Sunday afternoon. Those newly reintegrated persons, 41 males and 5 females, underwent vocational training programme arranged by the Bureau of Commissioner General Rehabilitation (BCGR) at different centres. Meanwhile, Rehabilitation Authority has launched a loan scheme for rehabilitated ex-LTTE members to start self employments after reintegration.
According to Secretary for the Ministry of Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms, A. Dissanayaka the last remaining group of former LTTE cadres will be released by mid-2012.
During and immediately after the final phase of the Humanitarian Operation 11,700 LTTE cadres have surrendered to the government security forces.
The governmenthas allocated Rs.750 million for the rehabilitation process for this year and has spent Rs. 2.5 billion on the rehabilitation of ex-LTTE cadres since May 2009.
