The revenues obtained per tourist have also increased compared to last year. Income per tourist was US$ 88 a day of duration last year but it has increased to US$ 97 a day within the first nine months of this year, the official figures show. Sri Lanka increased tourism industry earning to US$ 580 million within this year so far.
Sri Lanka targeted 750,000 tourist arrivals in the year 2011 which would earn US$ 585 Million at an average daily spend of US$ 97 per tourist with 8.6 days average duration and 23,500-room capacity. However that target has already been exceeded by November, according to the Tourism Authority data.
The number of tourist arrivals increased by 34.3% and the country expects 850,000 arrivals by the end of the year. Sri Lanka anticipates the arrival of the 800,000th tourist on Monday. The arrivals have increased in the last months of the year as the season peaked.
