President felicitates migrant workers

 

President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday launched an island wide program to felicitate the migrant workers of Sri Lanka who bring in billions of rupees of revenues to the country.

President Rajapaksa led a walk from Galle Face greens to Temple Trees jointly organized by the Ministry of Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare and the Bureau of Foreign Employment to mark the International Migrants Day.

Migrant workers ready to leave for Korea and Middle East also participated in the walk.

The President also launched a new ATM card specially established for the migrant workers.

Minister Jeewan Kumaratunga presented a first day cover issued to commemorate the day to the President.

Addressing the gathering Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare Minister Dilan Perera noted that Sri Lanka's migrant workers contribute to the country's economy immensely and appreciated the unprecedented service rendered by the President as the Labour Minister in the past.

Minister Jeewan Kumaratunga, parliamentarians A.H.M. Azwar, Namal Rajapaksa, diplomats have also joined the walk.
