The main event of this year's commemoration will be held at the Kattankudi Cultural Center in Batticaloa from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon with the participation of Prime Minister D M Jayaratne as the Chief Guest on the invitation of Minister of Disaster Management Mahinda Amaraweera.

The thousands of people who lost their lives to the tsunami will be remembered with a nation-wide two minute silence from 9:25 a.m. to 9:27 a.m. on Monday.

The vehicle drivers are also requested to halt their vehicles and observe the two-minute silence.
