SL, one of leading countries in protecting women's rights – Ambassador Wickremasuriya

 

Sri Lanka is one of the leading countries in the world when it comes to protecting women's rights, says Sri Lanka Ambassador to the US, Jaliya Wickramasuriya.

“We had the first female Prime Minster in Sri Lanka and when it comes to women we have more than 50% workforce are women,” he said in an interview with The Washington Times, on the Crisis Group report of assault on women in Sri Lanka.

The most of the nurses, teachers are women and if you take today we have our Attorney-General is a female our Chief Justice is a female. We had a female President of Sri Lanka before this President came into power, the Ambassador further said.

There is no discrimination for women in Sri Lanka, he emphasized.
