Elephant Pass Saltern by early next year

The Elephant Pass Saltern, which had been destroyed completely by the LTTE, is being rehabilitated and will soon recommence production by the first quarter of the New Year.

According to the Minister of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development Douglas Devananda everything was done from scratch to commence salt production after its destruction by the terrorists.
A detailed map of the saltern will be prepared and earth bunds as the existing ones were in a dilapidated state.

The provision of necessary facilities such as drinking water, electricity, sanitary facilities, rest rooms for the employees, tractors and other machinery and equipment needed for the commencement of work will be provided to commence production early next year.
