Navy apprehend another Australia bound boat

Sri Lanka Navy today discovered a multi-day fishing vessel, on which several persons were to attempt to flee the country seeking illegal entry into Australia.

The boat along with four suspects was apprehended at 2.30 am today (10), Navy spokesman Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya said.

In an operation carried out close on January 06, Sri Lanka Navy with the assistance of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested 22 persons attempting to illegally travel to Australia from Rakawa, Tangalle.

Meanwhile, Australian Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd met his Indonesian counterpart Marty Natalegawa yesterday as Indonesia considers easing visa requirements for Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

A plan by Indonesia to ease visa requirements for citizens of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh has caused concern in Australian, as both countries have been seen as sources of illegal migrants seeking to reach Australia through Indonesia.
