SriLankan Airlines has re-launched services to Zurich (ZRH) in Switzerland recently.
The service, began on January 03 will initially operate twice-weekly flights on Monday and Friday to the Swiss city. One flight will be non-stop from Colombo and the Zurich-Colombo flight will operate via Male in the Maldive.
The services would be increased in the future, the airline said.
The Zurich service would be operated on wide-bodied Airbus A330 and A340 aircraft.
"We are delighted to re-launch services to Zurich which we have been planning for some time. This will significantly strengthen our services to travelers in central Europe, which is viewed as a market with great potential for tourism to Sri Lanka," SriLankan Airlines Chairman, Nishantha Wickremasinghe has said.
The national carrier operated to Zurich from the 80's, but the service was suspended in 2005 during a global slump in air travel.
SriLankan expects to serve travelers in Switzerland, southern Germany, eastern France and Austria.
Zurich would be the 60th destination in SriLankan's global route network spanning 33 countries.
