The Ministry of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Aesthetic Affairs has initiated a project to construct a village for artists.

Accordingly, 500 houses will be built in a 7 acre area in Horana.

This comes under one of the programmes initiated by President Mahinda Rajapaksa under "Mahinda Chintana" manifesto to provide houses to the artists who have no houses.

The Government aims to construct one million houses within six years under the ‘Jana Sevana’ programme which is carried out by the Ministry of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities.
