The Department of Census & Statistics has planned to conduct the third stage of the Census of Population and Housing where the enumeration of persons and housing will take place.
The first stage where all the Grama Niladhari divisions in Sri Lanka were mapped and the second stage where all the building units in the country were listed have already been successfully completed, says the Department of Census & Statistics.
The third stage of the Census of Population and Housing will be conducted in two main rounds. Collection of information on persons and their residences will be carried out during the three week period from February 27 to March 19.
This will be followed up by the revision round on March 20 and March 21 where houses are revisited and the population information collected during the first round are revised taking into account the births and deaths occurred since the data collection round up to the Census date, the Department further said.
In addition, enumeration of persons who do not have a usual residence and hence live outdoor is conducted on the night of March 19 th the night before the Census day, the Department added.
Awareness programmes for the Census Commissioners and Deputy Census Commissioners of the enumeration stage of the Census have already been conducted, the Department said.
Training of Census Supervisors throughout the country will be commenced on 12 th January while training of enumerators will be started on 19 th January.
The forthcoming Census of Population and Housing is the first Census that covers the entire island after a lapse of 30 years.
