Next UN contingent ready for departure


The 15th UN contingent, expected to leave for Haiti shortly on UN Peace Keeping Missions, says Sri Lanka Army.

The 15th UN contingent had their passing out parade at Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) Training School at Puttalam, the Army further said.

The 15th contingent is comprised of 49 officers and 601 soldiers. Of them, 29 officers and 419 other ranks are from the VIR.

The contingent consists of support and service troops including Navy and Air Force officers and other ranks.

Colonel W.S Ariyasinghe of the VIR is to command the UN battalion, scheduled to leave for Haiti in February.
