Crowds throng Mannar Divi Neguma

 

Crowds thronged the Divi Neguma exhibition which is being held in Mannar, which is It is highlights strong private sector participation. The exhibition and pulled the highest Tamil speaking crowds, considering the overall low population in the region.

The expo clearly projected unprecedented interest in Divi Neguma among the public exhibition goers- who usually seek white collar occupations but showed much interest in small scale entrepreneurship and self- employment, said Rishad Bathiudeen, Minister of Industry and Commerce.

This exhibition was aimed at giving an opportunity to start off the industry base, specially the cottage sector, in the Mannar region. New employment opportunities were also an expectation. We are starting to see encouraging results”, said Tilak Collure, Secretary, Ministry of Industry and Commerce.

The Mannar Divineguma featured 14 government institutions as exhibitors while also featuring 40 private sector firms. It focused on the empowerment of rural household economy.

Among the sectors on show are agro sector (especially machinery, seeding and replanting), leather and footwear manufacturing, food processing, SME marketing and networking capacity enhancement, and new technology infusion to the rural production units.
