Fourteen new hotels are being constructed in the Pasikudah Tourist Zone by private sector investing Rs.6, 530 mn, said Deputy Minister of Economic Development Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena.
These hotels will consist of 930 rooms and other related facilities.
Until 1983 Pasikudah was a tourist haven and there were only 3 hotels with 171 rooms at that time. The tourist industry in the area stopped due to terrorist activities. With the end of the war more and more tourist attention has been focused on this zone.
Pasikuda Tourists Zone has become very attractive for tourists again, especially for the Europeans.
According to the Deputy Minister, a large number of youth from the Eastern Province will get employment in Pasikuda after completion of the current construction work.
Mr. Yapa disclosed that the Government has allocated Rs.650 mn for the development of the Pasikudah Tourist Zone.
