Govt allocates 10 bn for North


The Economic Development Ministry has allocated Rs 10 bn for the development of the North, said Minister of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development Douglas Devananda.

Discussions were held to utilize these funds for needs of resettled people; fresh water fish farming projects and boost fisheries industry in North.

The money would be spent on rehabilitation of rural roads, small and medium scale irrigation projects, rural drinking water projects, renovations to schools and public buildings, establishment of rural health centers and hospitals and setting up of fertilizer and paddy stores.

Also, construction and renovations of post offices and other multipurpose co-operative buildings and seed stores, construction of toilets and providing other facilities deemed essential to the people will be done.
