President lauds Queen's leadership

 

During your reign of sixty years, the second longest for the British monarch,Your Majesty has given admirable leadership both to your country and the Commonwealth, President Mahinda Rajapaksa said in a felicitation message on the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth's accession to the throne of the United Kingdom.

"Your record of service to the country and people from the time you undertook public duties serving in the Auxiliary Territorial Service during World War II has been of an exemplary nature and has continued to bring honour, respect and dignity to your high office," President said.

From the time Your Majesty's accession four years after Sri Lanka obtained independence and joined the Commonwealth of Nations, we have had the best relations with the United Kingdom and have been closely associated with the Commonwealth, President further said.

Your Majesty,

I am pleased to extent to you the warmest felicitations of the Government and people of Sri Lanka and my own, on the Diamond Jubilee of your accession to the throne of the United Kingdom.

From the time Your Majesty's accession four years after Sri Lanka obtained independence and joined the Commonwealth of Nations, we have had the best relations with the United Kingdom and have been closely associated with the Commonwealth. During your reign of sixty years, the second longest for the British monarch, Your Majesty has given admirable leadership both to your country and the Commonwealth.

Your record of service to the country and people from the time you undertook public duties serving in the Auxiliary Territorial Service during World War II has been of an exemplary nature and has continued to bring honour, respect and dignity to your high office.

Your Majesty's two visits to our country are recalled for the friendship and goodwill that you brought to our country.

The people of Sri Lanka, my wife Shiranthi and my three sons join me in extending to you the warmest good wishes for good health and a continued and successful reign as Queen of the United Kingdom and Head of the Commonwealth of Nations.
