The three-day Senior PGA Asia Pacific Champions tour event commenced yesterday (15) in Kandy with the participation of over 60 senior professional golfers from across the globe.
The country's first top-level championship tour organized by SriLankan Airlines. It is being played across the stunning Victoria Golf and Country Resort in Kandy that overlooks the Victoria reservoir.
The programme began with a practice day on February 15, followed by a Pro Am on February 16 to give Sri Lanka's amateur golfers a chance to play with the Asia Pacific Tour Professionals. It is followed by two days of stroke play for the SriLankan Airlines Asia Pacific Senior Golf Masters Championship Trophy.
"We expect Victoria will be a stern test and the winning score to be close to par over the two days," SriLankan Airlines Chairman Nishantha Wickremasinghe said.
Spread over 200 hectares with Knuckles Range as the backdrop, the Victoria course is among the best in the Indian sub-continent with a fairly challenging 18-hole turf.
Golfers from the US, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Africa, the Philippines, Switzerland, Malaysia, the UK have signed up for the event.
