Asia Pacific's leading luxury hotel group, Hong Kong-based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, is to start the construction work of the Colombo luxury hotel project and 300-room city resort in Hambantota this week.
Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa will lay foundation stone for the Colombo hotel at Galle Face on February 24.
The Speaker of Parliament Chamal Rajapaksa and Hambantota MP Namal Rajapaksa will launch the Shangri-La Hambantota on Saturday (25).
According to the Company, the development in Colombo will be a multi-use complex with high-end retail facilities, deluxe apartments and a 650-key luxury hotel to open in 2014. The project will see a total investment of US$ 283 million.
Shangri-La is also investing US$ 130 million to develop the second property, a 161 rooms and 20 villas beachside resort in Hambantota, to be opened in 2013.
