Thalaimannar Magistrate's Court yesterday has released the 22 Tamil Nadu fishermen arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy on February 26 for fishing in the Sri Lankan waters near the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL). Indian officials from Tamil Nadu have contacted the Indian missions in Colombo and Jaffna to secure the fishermen's release along with the five boats seized by the Sri Lankan Navy.
The fishermen who were produced before Thalaimannar Magistrate's Court were released after the court accepted a flea yesterday.
The fishermen have been handed over to the Sri Lankan Navy which will hand them over to the Indian Coast Guard at the IMBL.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Coast Guard have assisted in the repatriation of 28 fishermen, which included 25 Sri Lankans and 03 Indians, on 26th February 2012 in the seas off Kankasanthurai.
