"Divi Neguma" 3rd phase targets 2.5 million households |

Around 2.5 million households have been targeted under the third phase of the Divi Neguma programme.
Nearly 75,000 officials from various ministries including Home Affairs, Agriculture, Fisheries, Samurdhi, Economic Development, Minor Crops, Livestock and Animal Husbandry would carry out a house to house programme till the 31st of March to motivate people to participate in the campaign, said Senior Secretary Ministry of Economic Development R. A. A. Kithsiri Ranawaka.
Under the first phase of "Divi Neguma" 1.5 million households were included in the programme. Under the second phase 2.1 million households were targeted successfully, Ranawaka said.
In its 3rd phase vegetable seeds, fruit, spice plants, fertilizer, ten chicks, milch cows, goats, fish fingerlings will be given to the participants. In addition, they will also be given cash assistance on easy payment terms, training in small industries and self employment programmes.
The "Divi Neguma" programme was commenced with the aim to uplift the socio-economic conditions of individuals in households by bringing down cost of living, providing an additional income, increase nutrition intake and provide food security.
