Kalmadu tank handed over to Kilinochchi people

Kalmadu Tank, one of the largest tanks next to Iranamadu in Kilinochchi District was opened for the public utility on March 11.

This tank feeds 4250 acres of the paddy fields in the District. During the humanitarian operation the tank was blasted by LTTE terrorists on 24 January 2009.

When resettlement programme commenced, Ministry of Economic Development allocated 110 million rupees to renovate the tank immediately. People of Kilinochchi who faced many difficulties without water from this tank for their cultivation are now benefited by the renovated tank.

After the renovation, water from the tank is used for Maha Season since October 2011. As a result, good harvest was reaped during the last season.
