President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday opened the new headquarters building of the Auditor-General's Department in Battaramulla. The Department previously headquartered in the Independence Square in Colombo 7 opened at the new five-storied headquarters.
The Auditor-General's Department of Sri Lanka, established in 1899, is a non-ministerial government department. The Auditor General through the Auditor General's Department provides an independent review of the performance and accountability of the public sector institutions and reports to Parliament.
Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne, Senior Minister of Human Resources D. E. W. Gunasekara and the mayor of Kaduwela Municipal Council G. H. Buddhadasa were also present at the occasion.
