The government plans to improve the infrastructure in the Northwest Province and focus more attention on developing the fisheries industry and resolve the land issues in the area, President Mahinda Rajapaksa said. Participating in the special district development meeting in Puttalam yesterday, President Rajapaksa discussed the progress of the development work in the district with the public representatives from the government as well as from the opposition parties who represent the district. Addressing the public officials, the President pointed out that the public are always watching the performance of their representatives and stressed the need for the officials to work for the country irrespective of their party politics. He instructed the officials to expedite the Paalaviya water project and the Deduru Oya reservoir project. Ministers Basil Rajapaksa, Milroy Fernando, Priyankara Jayaratna, Bandula Gunawardena, Dayasritha Perera, Janaka Bandara Tennakoon and Johnston Fernando, Chief Minister of North Western Province Athula Wijesinghe, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga and Secretary to Finance Ministry Dr. P.B. Jayasundara also participated in the meeting.
