President pardons former Army Commander


Former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka who was serving a three-year jail term has been released.

He was released on a pardon granted by President Mahinda Rajapaksa in accordance with the powers vested in him in the Constitution.

Former Army General's counsel withdrew two appeals pending in court against convictions prior to the presidential pardon coming into effect.
