Fifteen government officers will receive the opportunity to pursue Master Studies in Japan, under the Japanese Grant Aid for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS) implemented by JICA.
A Grant Agreement (GA) worth 211 million Yen (approx. Rs 340 million ) was signed by JICA Chief Representative Mr. Harumi Ao and Secretary to the Treasury Dr. P.B. Jayasundara on 25th May 2012.
The JDS scholarships have been awarded to Sri Lankan students since 2010 and about 30 students are currently studying at selected universities in Japan. The priority areas of study under this program are public policy, finance and administration, regional development, poverty alleviation and macro and development economics.
The objective of this program is to support the Sri Lankan Government in its efforts to facilitate its own plans for human resource development mainly for capacity building and institutional JICA expects to continue the JDS program until 2014 and about 60 young government officers with the potential to play leadership roles in their specialties are expected to receive this opportunity.
