Despite enormous obstacles the development taking place in Sri Lank is tremendous, said K. Shanmugam, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Law of Singapore.
Measures taken by the Government to resettle the IDPs and to develop former conflict-affected areas within a short period of time are not second to the any developed country in the world, the Minister further said.
He made these observations when he called on President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees today (1).
Furthermore, the Singapore Foreign Minister visited the North and saw for himself the measures taken by the Government to develop the infrastructure facilities in these areas and the steps taken for the upliftment of the living standards of the people.
The visiting Minister interacted with the people in the area and he said that the people have expressed confidence for the President including Government’ policies.
The Minister assured Singapore’s continued support to Sri Lanka to train government officials and to provide technical assistance in the Commonwealth Games.
