President was elected as a MP for the first time on a day like today


President Mahinda Rajapaksa who was the SLFP candidate for Beliatta Electorate in the General Election conducted on May 27, 1970 was elected to Parliament by a majority of 6626 votes.

He was elected at the age of 24 years and was the then youngest Parliamentarian.

President Rajapaksa attended Parliament for the first time as a Member of Parliament on a day like today (07) in 1970.
