Cartoonists can help build disciplined society - President


A cartoonist can use their skills to send an enormous message to the society in the form of humor and entertainment, President Mahinda Rajapaksa said when he met a group of cartoonists at Temple Trees yesterday.

The continuous contributions of the cartoonists are anticipated in the society building process and therefore, the cartoon artists must an example to the future generation by engaging in constructive creations, President Rajapaksa said.

The President has also pointed out that it is the responsibility of the cartoonist to identify the social requirements and to utilize their skills for social advancement.

Addressing the issue of the rising child abuse in the country, the cartoonists have pointed out that due to the lack of attention of the parents, the children of school going age unable to take decisions on their own and become victims of various abuses.

The access to indecent websites on the Internet have strongly contributed to the crimes taking place in the society, the cartoonists have pointed out.
The cartoon artists also offered the President their creations on the President himself.

Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga and Secretary to the Financial and Planning Ministry Dr. P.B. Jayasundera were also present at the meeting.
