The government will soon establish diplomatic relations with the Republic of the Congo (Brazzaville) according to an agreement signed with the Congolese government earlier in the year. The Cabinet of Ministers approves a proposal made by Minister of External Affairs Prof G.L. Peiris to establish diplomatic relations with former French colony.
During a two-day official visit to Congo in February this year, Minister Peiris has signed an agreement with the Congolese government to establish diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The government says it expects to strengthen the relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries in the political, economic and cultural fields by establishing diplomatic ties.
