Vietnam Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung reiterated his government's wish to work closely in partnership with Sri Lanka in responding to current challenges.
The Vietnamese Prime Minister congratulated Sri Lanka on her significant achievements with regard to economic development and reconciliation since the eradication of terrorism three years ago when Minister of External Affairs Prof. G. L. Peiris paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister.
During their conversation Minister Peiris informed Prime Minister Dung of the conclusions reached at the Third Meeting of the Sri Lanka – Vietnam Joint Commission of Economic, Scientific and Technological Co-operation co-chaired by the External Affairs Minister of Sri Lanka and the Foreign Minister of Vietnam.
The principal areas for collaboration between Sri Lanka and Vietnam , identified at the Joint Commission, were defence co-operation, tourism, the oil and gas sector, agriculture, fisheries and financial services.
