Leftist leader reprimanded at TESO for speaking against India

The leader of the Left Front Dr. Wickramabahu Karunaratne has been reprimanded for criticizing India at the conference of the Tamil Eelam Solidarity Organizations (TESO) held Sunday in Chennai.

Karunaratne has said that India should be held responsible for the attacks carried out by the Sri Lanka during the last phase of the war against Tamil Tiger rebels and he has also criticized India for imposing the 13th Amendment to the Constitution under which the Provincial Councils were introduced.

DMK politician T.R. Balu has asked Karunaratne to refrain from criticizing India and the sources said that organizers have stopped the Left Front leader from continuing his speech.

Karunaratne has then subdued his tone and finished his speech early, sources said.

Dr. Wickramabahu Karunaratne was the only participant from Sri Lanka at the TESO conference held in support of reviving the 'separate homeland for Tamils' cause and dividing the island to a Tamil Eelam in the North and East.

The major Tamil party of Sri Lanka, Tamil National Alliance declined to participate in the conference without giving any specific reason.
