Sri Lanka Telecommunication Regulatory Commission has decided to grant same frequency to the radio channels to use island wide for broadcasting. The decision is to be implemented in November this year, Telecommunication Regulatory Commission sources say.
Currently, 43 radio channels operate between 87 to 107 MHz range. Radio channels are given several frequencies for broadcasting in various areas in the island.
Radio listeners of some areas have complained to the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission regarding the problems in listening to radio due to overlapping of channels.
Telecommunication Regulatory Commission sources say that presently the gaps between the frequencies also have not been maintained properly.
Around 90% of the radio stations of the island have agreed to the streamlining.
