The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), the main constituent of Sri Lanka's ruling United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) will celebrate its 61st anniversary today(02).
The main anniversary ceremony will be held at Kegalle Urban Council grounds under the chairmanship of party leader President Mahinda Rajapaksa this evening.
SLFP was founded by the 4th Prime Minister of Sri Lanka late S.W.R.D Bandaranaike with former member of the State Council and later Parliamentarian D. A. Rajapaksa and H. Sri Nissanka in 1951 and, since then, it has been one of the two largest parties in the Sri Lankan political arena.
The SLFP played a pivotal role in lifting the sagging morale of Security Forces to fight the separatists and strengthen the territorial integrity and independence of the country.
The Sri Lanka Freedom party has produced two executive Presidents.
